Originated the role of Mr. Knightley in Kate Hamill’s Emma at The Guthrie and will reprise the role this spring at The Denver Center. Other recent work: Pride and Prejudice at Hartford Stage, Private Lives at The Repertory theatre of St. Louis. He received Broadway World’s Best Actor in Minneapolis and in Central New York for his performance as Mr Knightly in Kate Hamill’s Emma and as Mr. Darcy in Kate Hamill’s Pride and Prejudice.
BROADWAY: Bob/Marvin (original Broadway Cast) in Marvin’s Room directed by Anne Kaufman, Valvert in Cyrano de Bergerac opposite Kevin Kline and Jennifer Garner directed by David Leveaux.
OFF BROADWAY:  Originated the role of Jeff in JC Lee’s To My Girls at Second Stage, Sense and Sensibility (Bedlam), Henry 6th in Rose Rage; Henry the 6th Pts. 1, 2, 3 (St. Clair Bayfield Award for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Shakespeare in NYC, Jeff Award, Drama League Nomination), dir. by Edward Hall at Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, The Witch of Edmonton, Lorenzaccio, and The Tempest with Red Bull Theater, Lincoln Center Theater Director’s Lab, The Public Theater, The Atlantic, The Pearl, Theater for a New Audience, Primary Stages, The Mint, Project Shaw, The Drama League, and Ars Nova.

TRAINING: Carman has an MFA from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University and a BFA from Texas Christian University. He is a founding member and Artistic Associate of Amphibian Stage Productions, where he has performed in numerous productions.  In addition to being a monologue and acting coach Carman is also a Fight Choreographer and Tennis Pro.
