Mackenzie Bykowski is an NYC based teaching artist, originally from the suburbs of southwestern Connecticut. He holds a Masters of Music in Vocal Performance from NYU as well as an Advanced Certificate in Vocal Pedagogy and a Bachelor’s of Music in Music Business from NYU. Mackenzie specializes in working with voices in recovery from vocal injuries and serves as a referral vocal technician for the NYU Voice Center. After having experienced a vocal injury while preparing for the role of Tony in West Side Story, Mackenzie became fascinated by the intricate workings of the functional unit for singing. His curiosity led him to pursue an independent study on the development of a business approach to vocalist health in which he identified the influence a vocal instructor has on a singer’s rehabilitation. Because a singer’s relationship with their voice is deeply tied to their sense of identity, it is essential for their vocal instructor to have the ability to empathize and guide them to discovering their most balanced sound.
